Elder abuse is doing something or failing to do something
that leads in harm to an elderly person or puts a helpless
older person at jeopardy of harm. This comprises:
- Physical, sexual and emotional ill-treatment
- Neglecting or deserting an older person you are
accountable for
- Taking or misusing an aged person's money or property
Elder abuse can occur within the family. It can also occur
in settings like hospitals or nursing homes or in the
community. Elder abuse is a stern problem in this country.
All 50 states consists laws against elder abuse. The laws
vary, but all states have systems for reporting suspected
abuse.
