Blood and Blood Disorders
This is also known as hematologic diseases. Your blood
is living tissue is of liquid and solids. The liquid part,
known as plasma, is of water, salts and protein. There
is plasma over half of your blood. The hard part of your
blood has red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
Red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to your tissues
and organs. White blood cells fight infection and are
component of your body's defense system. Platelets assist
blood to clot. Bone marrow, the spongy material in your
bones, makes new blood cells. Blood cells continually
die and your body makes novel ones. Red blood cells live
about 120 days, platelets 6 days and white cells fewer
than a day.
