Adrenal Gland Disorders
Your adrenal, or suprarenal, glands
are located close to the top of every kidney.
These glands generate hormones that you can't live without,
including sex hormones and cortisol,
which helps you respond to pressure and has a lot of
other functions.
Adrenal disorders can cause your adrenal
glands to make so much or not enough hormones. With
Cushing's syndrome, there's so much
cortisol, while with Addison's disease, there is so
little. Few people are born not capable to make enough
cortisol. Tumors may also cause disorders
in your adrenal glands. Bleeding and infection
can cause an adrenal gland problem that can be lethal
without quick treatment.
Treatment depends on which difficulty
you have. Surgery or medicines can
treat a lot of adrenal gland disorders.
