Orthodontic spacer

Orthodontic spacers are used in orthodontics before braces are applied on teeth. Spacers are little rubber bands that fit between the teeth. In some cases, an orthodontist may use a metal spacer, which looks like a tiny metal hinge. The spacers stay between your teeth for several days (about one week) and move the teeth apart slightly. Spacers are worn all day until the orthodontist removes them. Spacers are taken out before braces are put on. Spacers are generally uncomfortable, in some cases, may even ache. Pain relievers can palliate the pain.
